Back on Schedule
Two rounds of singles were played on Wednesday, putting the tournament back on schedule to finish Friday, in spite of postponing all Tuesday matches due to rain. All consolation matches will not be played. The consolation will be played to determine the top 8 finishers in each division, but the matches to determine the exact order of finish (3-4, 5-6 & 7-8) will not be played. Singles finals begin at the Belton Tennis Center at 8:00 a.m. Friday and continue until 12:00. An Awards Ceremony will follow.

10's Champions
The first champions for the 2003 tournament were determined Monday in the Boys' and Girls' 10s. Stephen Behr of Florence won the Boys' by defeating John Richmond of Pawley's Island 6-0, 7-5. Alexis Prickett of Columbia defeated Avery Owens of Clinton 6-3,6-1 in the finals of the Girls' 10s. Philip Canale and Rob Galloway won the Boys' 10s Doubles 8-5 over Behr and Walker Heffron. Owen and Maecy Seawright won the Girls' 10s Doubles 8-5 over Chandler Consonary and Kelsey Hand.

Dunlop Scholarship Recipient
Symmes Johnson of Anderson was named the recipient of the Dunlop Scholarship during the 18's Party Monday night. Johnson, who will attend the University of Georgia, receives $1,000 her freshman year. Symmes attended T. L. Hanna High School and graduated second in a class of over 500 students. She was a member of Beta Club and the National Honor Society, and was involved in countless school and community activities. The scholarship was presented by Steve Zalinski, VP for Racquet Sports at Dunlop.

Challenger winners
Champions in the Challenger Divisions were determined Wednesay and Thursday. Katie Haught of Fripp Island defeated Katherine Theos of Mt. Pleasant 6-0, 6-3 to win the 14's Girls. Stella Hungerford of Greenville defeated Laura Koerner of Columbia 2-6, 7-5,1-0 to win the 16's Girls. Dirk Bair of Moncks Corner defeated Zachary Sprouse of Hilton Head 6-3, 6-1 to win the 14's Boys. Kyle Tidwell of Clover defeated Robert Pearce of Mt. Pleasant to win the 16's Boys.

Hall of Fame Portraits Unveiled
The portraits of the 2002 inductees into the South Carolina Tennis Hall of Fame, Jerry Smith of Irmo and Pat & Jack Adams of Charleston, were unveiled during a special ceremony at the Palmetto Fling Wednesday night. The portraits were painted by Wayland Moore of Atlanta. Belton's Jim Russell was also recognized for his induction into the ITA Collegiate Hall of Fame last month.
